David Bromley

A British born artist, David Bromley began his career as a potter, gradually arriving at painting. Bromley has continued this love of exploration throughout this career, continually pushing the boundaries of his art through new mediums and subject matter.

A profilic artist, best known for his 'adventure styled' Boy's Own works and bold nudes he takes inspiration from popular culture both past and present and the great artists such as Warhol and Leichtenstein.

"The main focus of my work is the journey that we go on physically and emotionally. I play this out often in the adolescent world where I feel the magnitude of what life holds for us is at its most potent." - David Bromley 1998

Most recently he has embarked upon a sensual journey exploring the female nude captured boldly and brightly with black outlines and embellished with metallic paint and leaf.

"I have been painting portraits for many years but mainly concentrating on the face... I wanted to evolve these portraits by adding emotion expressed through the body. I have also been taking photographs for years - doing fashion shoots - stills for film and video clips.

My aim is to represent the human form in a way that parallels the sexy contemporary fashion and photographic magazines. It has been a challenging and rewarding process and I have been inspired by love of Warhol's work, in particular his portraiture and fugurative work" - David Bromley 2001

To date Bromley is represented in many corporate and institutional collections and has had over seventy solo exhibitions with his works being exhibited by galleries Australia wide and internationally in Singapore, Paris, Tokyo, London and New York.

He has been a finalist in the Archibald prize for many years and has been named as one of the fifty most collectable artists in Australia by Australian Art Collector Magazine.
